So where to start? I went to my Pinterest page and instantly saw easy things to start with, but also had the realization that this endeavor is going to cost money. So then I decided to look at things like home organization to start with. There isn't a lot of expense involved with most of it, and I recently moved in with my fiancée and he always says I need to make the house more homey. So starting by organizing the house seems like the best way to get started. So I went to my "for the home - organizing/decluttering" board and found the "52 week challenge to organize your whole house. Perfect New Years resolution" pin which is found http://pinterest.com/pin/54254370482556801/
This at first seemed overwhelming and I thought, "Great! I will spend my whole year on one pin." Then I realized it is just a bunch of little tasks and weekly decluttering area, so I think I can do that, and do some other pins simultaneously. I then realized I need to set some rules for myself, so I don't go crazy doing this resolution.
Rule 1: I am not restricting this to just things I have pinned now. If I'm having a rough day and want a quick recipe or something to try that is new. I am giving myself the grace to be able to do that, but I promise that will not be the norm. This also leaves me open to accepting any pins sent to me by family, friends, or other readers of this blog. This will make this journey more interactive for all of us. I will be your guinea pig if you want me to be.
Rule 2: I am not limiting myself to doing one pin a day. This means two things. First, if I need a few days off I can do that and not ruin my resolution. But again this won't be the norm. Second, it means on some days I may want to try more than one pin in a day. I think this will be more of the case when I'm on maternity leave in a few more months and will have plenty of time on my hands.
Rule 3: I get to pick the pins I want to try. This means I will probably cherry pick the easy ones at first, but eventually I will have to try the more complex stuff.
So far that is all the rules. So what did I do today? I went to the 52 weeks to organizing your home pin and signed up for the newsletter which gives you a link to activate the account. Then It gives you a link to find the printable calendar of tasks to do to declutter your home. There are little 15 minute tasks a day and then one area to do more focused decluttering a week. So today it just had me set up my goals for the year which to me is to complete this resolution I started which I have mapped out here, so the bonus activity is complete. The next task was to set up a donation and selling area in your house. I used a thirty-one utility bin that has two sections to achieve this. One side is labeled "for sale" and the other side is labeled "donations.
I also looked over some other pins I want to try and stopped by Walmart to pick up some of the supplies I needed. There will be more to come on those though. All in all I would say things are looking good for this resolution and I'm having some fun with this already.
